NEW RENEWAL PROCEDURES

Some of you may have noticed the new goldenrod renewal slip found in your September issue and again in this issue. The renewal slip reflects a change for Crown Jewels of the Wire magazine. There will be 12 monthly, regular 60-page magazines each year. Instead of the Subscriber/NIA Directory issue (printed as a regular issue each October) being a part of the subscription price, it will be a separate item published by Crown Jewels. It will include the names of the subscribers to this magazine and will also include your NIA membership number if you are a current member in the National Insulator Association.. The nominal increase in subscription rate is due to recent and upcoming 1991 postal rate increases.

The reason for the change is due to the fact that publishing the directory issue in its current format has caused this issue to outgrow a size which makes its physical size, cost and postal mailability impossible.

As each of you receive the new renewal slip in your copy of CJ in the coming months, you will be given a choice to renew with or without a directory. And, if you decide sometime next year that you want to receive a directory in October, you will be given a chance at that time to order one. I am estimating that there are only about 50% of you who may make use of the directory and would just as soon see a regular issue with articles and ads instead of a listing of the subscribers. Time will tell, but at least the expense to produce the directory and your desire to have one in your library will be met.

This change will also give me an opportunity to have another month available for articles and show reports and will still provide 12 months of regular advertising for you as readers.

During the past four years, Drip Points (the quarterly newsletter of the National Insulator Association) has been published as an insert in Crown Jewels. As of the NIA Board meeting at the 1991 Cedar Rapids National, Drip Points will be published and mailed by the NIA Information Director to all active NIA members. Separating this publishing and printing responsibility will allow the NIA to expand their newsletter and free more space within Crown Jewels. The $2.00 off coupons issued by the NIA applicable toward your Crown Jewels subscription will continue to be honored by this office at the time of your renewal.
